Independent Custody Visiting Scheme reports
The Independent Custody Visiting (ICV) Scheme plays a vital role in checking on the welfare of people in custody.
The ICV Scheme allows trained volunteers to visit police custody suites to ensure the welfare and rights of individuals detained in police custody are upheld. The ICVs make weekly unannounced visits to check on detainees’ conditions, including their treatment, access to legal advice, and overall wellbeing. The scheme promotes transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the police service, helping to ensure that detention procedures are fair and humane.
The Independent Custody Visiting Schemes Annual Reports provide a summary of the excellent work and commitment of the custody visitors in scrutinising the standards and conditions in police cells in the three designated Custody units in the Avon and Somerset Constabulary area: Patchway, Keynsham and Bridgwater Police Centre.
You can find a copy of the latest annual ICV report and all previous reports on the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner’s website.
