Freedom of Information internal review procedure

If an applicant is unhappy with the response to their request for information, they can appeal against the decision within 40 working days and request an internal review.

We welcome internal review requests as an important part of ensuring transparency and accountability under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.

To help us provide the most accurate and timely response, we kindly encourage requests to focus on specific areas of concern, rather than addressing the entire original response in detail.

This approach allows us to concentrate on the points that matter most to you and provide clear, targeted clarification, while fully respecting your right to request a review of any aspect of our decision.

Request an FOI internal review

To request an internal review against the outcome following your FOI request:

We will acknowledge receipt of your appeal before conducting an internal review.

Potential outcomes

You will be subsequently informed of the outcome, which could be one of these possibilities:

  1. All the information will be provided
  2. Some additional information will be provided
  3. The original decision will be upheld and no additional disclosure made
  4. Additional or alternate exemptions or refusals may be applicable

If, after the appeals procedure has concluded, you are still dissatisfied, you have the right to direct your comments to the Information Commissioner’s Office who will give it due consideration.
