Release of body-worn footage to the media procedure

We will assess requests to release material into the public domain, or to a specific cohort of individuals during an ongoing investigation, only if certain criteria apply

The release of body-worn footage, or any other material associated with an ongoing investigation, must only be considered under exceptional circumstances and when strictly necessary.

The immediate need to release must be based on the prevention or de-escalation of serious violence or disorder. The threshold for release is therefore extremely high.

This procedure should only be used if this pressing social need is met.
