Two men have been jailed after admitting robbing a man in Yeovil.
Shane Morgan and Thomas Wilkinson attacked their 44-year-old victim as he sat on a bench in Yeovil Country Park on 26 May.
The pair punched the man in the face before running off after stealing a £20 note he had in his hand.
They were sentenced today (30 November) at Taunton Crown Court after pleading guilty to robbery on what was due to be the first day of their trial last week.
Both Wilkinson, 27, of no fixed address and Morgan, of Fosse Park Road, Yeovil, were jailed for five years and three months.
Morgan was also given an additional one year and four months prison term for an unrelated drugs offence which will run consecutively. The 30-year-old was sentenced for supplying Class A drugs to a plain clothed police officer earlier this year.
Investigating officer PC Jim Card said: “The level of violence used by both men for the sake of a relatively small amount of cash is shocking.
“We will not tolerate this behaviour and I hope this case serves as reminder to those who engage in such criminality that there will be significant consequences.”
