Neighbourhood Blues launches Monday 9th November

Neighbourhood Blues launches its second series featuring Avon and Somerset Police on Monday 9th November. This series follows neighbourhood officers and PCSOs in Bridgwater, Bath and Weston-super-Mare.

Each episode lasts 45 minutes and will be aired over nine consecutive days at 11.30am on BBC1. There will be another series early in 2016, recording for this has already taken place and the footage is currently being reviewed.

The series is positive and tells a story of the varied work we do on a daily basis. Inspector Sharon Bennet said of the experience: “It was certainly strange to begin with, but very quickly you get used to having a huge camera pointing at you.  It sounds strange but it becomes second nature, you talk to the person behind the camera, the cameraman becomes a member of the team, after all he was with us for 5 months. When you have to explain what you are doing and why it makes you realise how varied our role is, how much knowledge we all have.

Sharon’s funniest memory of the filming was: “watching a mounted officer on the Bournville Estate canter off and catch a mini moped, you don’t see that every day!  Highlights for me are being able to show the public how much we work together both internally, with units coming together to conduct thorough and safe warrants to externally, us working with North Somerset Council, the communities and other agencies in a whole manner of ways to tackle local issues.

She hopes the public will see that:

“Officers genuinely care about their communities, they are compassionate about others, but human too."

I have been hugely impressed with every member of the team, I know how professional and caring they all are, this is an opportunity for the public to get a glimpse of what everyday life is like in neighbourhood policing, how varied and diverse our work is, the multitude of skills our officers have, and how quickly we all have to adapt to different situations.”

PC Tex Freeman said “I would definitely do it again, it was very enjoyable. I think the show will demonstrate to the public the variety of jobs we deal with.”
