Report lost and found property
If you have lost or found property in a public place, we may be able to help.
UK Police Forces have collectively agreed that the responsibility for lost and found property does not lie with the police. However, we continue to offer a limited service for specific categories of found items, in accordance with national guidance.
We will accept:
- Items capable of containing data, such as mobile phones, computers, and tablets
- Illicit items, such as weapons, ammunition and drugs
- Significant amounts of cash
- Handbags, bags, wallets and purses containing items within that make the owner identifiable
We will not accept:
- Bicycles, including e-bikes and e-scooters
- Animals
- Property where an owner is not identifiable, such as spectacles, keys, clothing and empty handbags
Lost property
If you have lost a non-hazardous item, you can report it to Report My Loss for a fee. It is an online service developed in consultation with UK police forces that allows you to report lost property, a step that is often requested by insurers. With this service, you no longer need to telephone or visit a police station.
To determine the best option for reporting lost and found property, you can use our online form to help guide you.
