Operation Sceptre Week

Today is the start of #OpSceptre week and we are encouraging people to surrender unwanted knives safely.
Operation Sceptre is the national week of action highlighting our work to tackle, prevent and ultimately disrupt knife crime.

There is a knife surrender bin located at the side of the Town Hall on Union Street, Weston-super-Mare (Please refer to the images below)

To dispose of any knives please follow the below advice:
– Wrap it in something like a towel, to keep yourself and anyone handling it safe
-Make a specific journey to the surrender bin, so you don’t need to carry the item for longer than you need to

Under the Offensive Weapons Act it is illegal to possess certain types of weapons such as flick knives and zombie knives.

Carrying a knife does not keep you safe, in fact you are more likely to get hurt
Carrying a knife can lead to four years in prison even if you have not used it.

We will be carrying out activities throughout the week to combat knife crime.
