Youth ASB

Beachley Walk Children’s Centre, Shirehampton, was recently identified as a location of concern due to reports of anti-social behaviour (ASB). Information received indicated that young people were gaining access to a disused building within the site, creating significant safety and safeguarding concerns because of the property’s condition.

Following partnership working between Avon and Somerset Police and Bristol City Council, measures have now been implemented to secure the premises. Steel security shutters and protective boarding have been installed to prevent unauthorised access and reduce the risk of injury, helping to ensure the site remains safe and secure for the local community.

Residents may continue to see neighbourhood policing teams conducting regular patrols and reassurance visits in the area. These patrols form part of our ongoing commitment to preventing anti-social behaviour, deterring criminal activity, and maintaining community safety. We would like to reassure residents that this increased police presence is a proactive measure aimed at monitoring the location and preventing further incidents.

We also encourage parents, carers, and guardians to speak with children and young people about the dangers associated with entering abandoned or derelict buildings. Such premises can contain a number of serious hazards, including asbestos, exposed electrical wiring, structural instability, broken glass, concealed voids, deep water hazards, and other risks capable of causing significant injury or harm.

Tackling anti-social behaviour and identifying locations that present risks to the public remains a priority for neighbourhood policing teams. We rely heavily on information provided by residents and local communities to help identify emerging issues, hotspot locations, and safeguarding concerns at an early stage. Community intelligence plays a vital role in enabling police and partner agencies to take swift and effective action.

If you have concerns regarding anti-social behaviour, vulnerable individuals, or unsafe locations within your community, please report them. Non-emergency matters can be reported via 101 or through our online reporting services. In an emergency, or where there is an immediate risk to life or crime in progress, please call 999.

By continuing to work together with residents, local authorities, and partner agencies, we can address anti-social behaviour, improve community safety, and help protect those who are most vulnerable.
