Anti-Social Behaviour
Merriott and Hinton St George Villages
We have received numerous reports of anti-social behaviour within the villages of Merriott and Hinton St George. Ensuring that public spaces remain safe and enjoyable for all members of the community is extremely important.
Following enquiries, we have identified concerns relating to groups of young people gathering in local parks, where reports have included general anti-social behaviour, suspected illegal activity, and allegations of drug use. These reports have understandably raised concerns among residents.
We are exploring ways to address these issues in partnership with local authorities, schools, and community groups. Increased patrols and community engagement initiatives will play an important role in deterring anti-social behaviour and improving public confidence.
Actions
Community Engagement
Regular patrols in both villages
- Maintain a visible presence within the community to deter anti-social behaviour and provide reassurance to residents.
- Engage with local residents to identify concerns and gather information.
Liaising with local youth organisations, including Brownies and Scouts
- Build positive relationships with young people through outreach activities, informal conversations, and educational awareness initiatives.
- Work closely with youth group leaders to promote positive behaviour and encourage constructive community involvement.
Ongoing Work
We will continue to monitor reports, conduct regular patrols, and work with partner agencies to identify appropriate interventions. We encourage residents to continue reporting incidents so that concerns can be accurately assessed and addressed.
