Pheasant Season Begins – Stay Vigilant Against Poaching

As pheasant season begins on 1st October, we urge the rural community to remain alert and report any suspicious activity that may indicate poaching. Poaching harms local wildlife, damages the rural economy, and is often linked to other crimes such as property damage and theft.

If you notice vehicles in unusual locations, individuals with dogs or firearms where they shouldn’t be, or anything that seems out of place, please do not intervene. Instead, record key details and contact the police immediately.

  • Call 999 if the incident is in progress
  • For non-urgent reports, call 101 or report online via Avon and Somerset Police – Report Anti-Social Behaviour

Your vigilance is vital in helping us protect our countryside and keep our communities safe.

PCSO’s have been carrying out targeted patrols in locations known for poaching, as these areas can be used repeatedly. PCSO’s have discussed using What Three Words with farmers and land owners when poaching is witnessed, as this will pin point offenders quickly.

    Poaching Concerns in Rural Villages

We understand that poaching may be occurring within our rural communities. Residents are often sharing information via social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook. While community awareness is valuable, we urge members of the public to report any suspicious behaviour directly to the police so that appropriate action can be taken.

We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who:

    • Sees or hears gunshots during the hours of darkness
    • Notices trespassers on land
    • Observes any other suspicious activity

📞 Call 999 if the incident is in progress
📱 For non-urgent reports, call 101 or report online via Avon and Somerset Police – Report rural or wildlife crime
