Dealing with shop theft and supporting local businesses

Theft and shoplifting continue to be reported across the Kingsweston beat area, particularly within retail premises in Ridingleaze and surrounding industrial estates.

Offences range from opportunistic shoplifting and retail theft to the theft of high-value tools, vehicles and commercial goods, with local businesses frequently targeted by repeat offenders.

These offences can have a significant financial impact on businesses and often contribute to wider concerns within the community, including anti-social behaviour and increased fear of crime.

To address these issues, your Neighbourhood Policing Team will be adopting a proactive approach through targeted patrols in identified hotspot locations, including industrial areas that are particularly vulnerable to tool and vehicle theft. Officers will work closely with local businesses and partner agencies to identify prolific offenders, provide crime prevention advice and encourage timely reporting of incidents.

Where appropriate, robust enforcement action will be taken against those responsible, including the arrest of repeat offenders and the progression of cases through the criminal justice process. Officers will also continue to gather and develop intelligence to strengthen investigations and build evidence against individuals involved in persistent offending.

We encourage businesses and members of the public to report incidents and share relevant information with police, as community intelligence plays a vital role in enabling effective, targeted action against those committing crime in the area.
