We have seen a significant rise in gold-related burglaries across somerset area, Offenders are specifically targeting high-value gold jewellery.
This priority aims to reduce offending, increase community reassurance, and improve vigilance through targeted patrols and proactive home-safety advice.
Current Trends & Modus Operandi
- Offenders often scope addresses in advance, looking for unoccupied homes.
- Common entry points: rear doors/windows, patio doors, and properties backing onto footpaths or unlit access routes.
- Burglaries frequently occur during early evening or when residents are at work.
- Gold jewellery is targeted due to:
- High resale value
- Ease of concealment and transport
- Cultural practices of storing jewellery within the home rather than banks

- Ensure all doors and windows are locked, especially rear access points.

Arrests have been made in response to the Burglary’s, and investigations are continuing. we would like to remind people to keep valuables locked away or hidden and look at your current home security and areas of weakness on your property.

The team have done foot patrols in the local area and other towns to make businesses and Mop aware of this situation and the recent car key thefts; giving them the relevant advice surrounding the added protection to their high-value items and extra home security. Gave out property marker kits as well.
