Anti-Social-Behaviour By E-Scooters/E Bicycles.

Privately owned e-scooters are illegal to use in public places, including roads, pavements and parks.

Any e-scooter found in these circumstances will be dealt with appropriately and may be seized and sent for destruction. E-scooters can only be used on private land, with the landowner’s permission.

E-bikes (electrically assisted pedal cycle) are legal, as long as:

• It has pedals capable of propelling the bike.
• The motor output must not exceed 250 watts continuous rated power.
• The electrical assistance must cut out at 15.5 mph (25 km/h).
• The rider must be 14 years or older.

A compliant e-bike can generally be ridden where a normal bicycle can be ridden. If an e-bike does not comply with the above points, it is classed as a moped or a motorcycle. It then requires:

• Registration and taxation
• Insurance
• An appropriate driving licence
• An approved motorcycle helmet
