Child Abuse

We are committed to keeping our children safe. We work closely with partner agencies to minimise the risks to children who might be at risk of harm.

Child abuse includes physical, sexual and emotional abuse.

Examples of abuse or neglect include:

  • not meeting a child’s basic needs such as food, a home, appropriate supervision
  • lack of medical or mental health care
  • not educating a child
  • not providing emotional care

Important: Call 999 to report a crime in progress or if a child or young person is in immediate danger.

Report it

If you are concerned about a child we would prefer to speak to you on the phone (by calling us on 101) or in person at a police station. However, if contacting us online is the safest way for you to get in touch, you can by filling in the Report a crime or incident form.

Please don’t be worried about talking to us, we will always listen to you and do everything we can to help.

Help and support

If you’re a child or young person worried or upset about something, talk to an adult you know well and trust.

ChildLine

If you don't have anyone you can talk to, you can call ChildLine for free. You can talk about any problem and there will always be someone there to help you sort it out.
