We’re issuing images of two men we want to identify in connection with an arson at a barber shop in Wincanton.

The incident happened at the shop in Church Street at about 7.30am on Saturday 14 March.

Two men have attempted to smash a window with a rock before pouring an accelerant on the glass and door and setting it alight. The fire did not take hold, but it did cause scarring to the front of the store and the pavement.

The suspects fled the scene in the direction of North Street.

We are issuing five images of two men who may hold information which could assist with our enquiries.

House-to-house, CCTV, and forensic enquiries have taken place as part of the ongoing investigation. We’ve also carried out additional patrols of the area.

DC Chloe Murray said: “This is a very concerning incident which could have resulted in significant consequences. Although no-one was in the shop at the time of the incident, there are flats above the premises, which could have been impacted had the fire taken hold.

“We’re treating the incident as arson and are asking for the public’s help to identify the two men in the CCTV images.

“One is described as white, of medium build, wearing a black hooded top, dark coloured trousers and black trainers. The second man is also white, of slim build, wearing a black hooded gilet, dark trousers and black trainers.”
