Celebrating those who go above and beyond
On Wednesday 20 May, we recognised officers, staff and members of the public for their exceptional efforts and dedication at our Force Awards.
The event celebrated individuals who have gone above and beyond to make a positive difference in their communities, support their colleagues, and serve the public with distinction. Held at BAWA Leisure in Filton, the afternoon ceremony showcased inspiring examples of bravery, teamwork and lifesaving interventions, among many other achievements.
Chief Constable Sarah Crew, Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody, and the High Sheriff of Gloucestershire Dame Fiona Reynolds, were honoured to present awards.
Among those recognised were Police Constable Jodie Norris who was awarded a Royal Humane Society Award in recognition of his courage and decisive action during a medical emergency in August 2025. While off duty and on a family holiday, he came across a person who had collapsed and required immediate assistance. Working alongside an off-duty Emergency Care Assistant, he quickly assessed the situation and delivered vital first aid, helping to stabilise the person so they could receive further treatment in hospital. PC Norris demonstrated strong leadership and sound judgement by ensuring the scene was safe, closing the road and coordinating the wider emergency response. His actions reflect the very best of policing: professionalism, compassion, and a commitment to protecting life, both on and off duty.
Police Constables Rebecca Lovell and Zak Ghent were awarded Royal Humane Society Awards in recognition of their lifesaving actions at a serious road traffic collision in October 2023. First at the scene, and facing a very distressing situation, they worked together to reach the vehicle’s occupant, reassure them and deliver first aid. Their actions were instrumental in saving the person’s life.
Paramedic Victoria Baker and member of the public Nathan Vizor were awarded Chief Constable Commendations for their brave and compassionate actions at a serious road traffic collision in September 2025. They both stopped to help following an incident during adverse weather conditions on a motorway. Working off duty, Victoria assessed the injuries of those involved. Both assisted injured people in the vehicles and stayed to ensure a single-crewed police officer could protect the scene until further emergency services could attend.
Vincent Ramond, another member of the public, was awarded a Waley Cohen Award for helping police officers who were responding to a violent incident in June 2025. He bravely stepped in to assist and administered first aid to an officer who had sustained significant injuries. Faced with a dangerous and unpredictable situation, Vincent put himself at personal risk to help protect our officers and members of the wider community.
On a sporting theme, Police Sergeant Andrew Munday was awarded a Chief Constable Commendation for his significant role in maintaining the safety of hundreds of thousands of spectators at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2025. Additionally, Police Constable Rick Woodland has been awarded an Angelo Yeoman Award for his commitment to running the Lockleaze Community Cup, often in his own time, making a lasting impact by bringing together diverse communities through football, many of whom may not otherwise engage with the police.
The Force Awards provide a valuable opportunity to acknowledge those who demonstrate outstanding commitment to public service and embody the very best in our communities. The Chief Constable, shared at the ceremony:
“At the heart of our profession is a desire to make a difference, and it’s clear that those recognised have gone above and beyond to do exactly that. The stories behind these awards are simply inspiring. Among them are examples of exceptional investigative work, innovative approaches, dedication to duty and extraordinary acts of bravery.
“It’s with great honour that we also extend our recognition to remarkable members of the public. They are a testament to the collaborative spirit that binds communities and law enforcement together.”
