Bath’s new police station opens its doors

Bath’s new police station has opened its doors today (Wednesday 12 August), marking a major milestone for policing in the city. 

Bath Police Enquiry Office has relocated from Lewis House on Manvers Street to its new home on Monmouth Street, providing a visible and accessible point of contact in the heart of the city. 

The opening marks the completion of a major refurbishment project following the purchase of the former Plymouth House office building by the Office for the Police and Crime Commissioner in 2023. 

The investment provides Bath with a modern, fit-for-purpose police station, bringing Neighbourhood and Patrol policing teams together under one roof alongside the public enquiry office. 

The new premises replace existing police bases at Redbridge House on Lower Bristol Road and the One Stop Shop in Lewis House on Manvers Street. 

Located in the centre of Bath, the new station places officers close to the communities they serve and supports the policing of a busy city centre, including its hospitality and retail economy. 

Chief Constable Sarah Crew said: 

“This new station represents a significant investment in policing in Bath and in the officers and staff who serve the city every day. 

“Modern policing needs facilities that support our people to work effectively, collaborate with colleagues and look after their own wellbeing. A great deal of thought has gone into creating a working environment that supports both our operational needs and the welfare of our workforce. 

“I’m delighted to see the station open and our teams beginning to make it their home. It demonstrates our long-term commitment to Bath and to giving our people the right environment and tools to deliver outstanding policing.” 

BANES Commander, Superintendent Ronnie Lungu, said: 

“Bringing our Neighbourhood and Patrol teams together in one place will make a real difference to the way we police Bath, helping us share intelligence, work more closely together and deploy our resources where they are needed most. 

“From tackling antisocial behaviour and shoplifting to responding to wider city centre demand, having our teams working together from a central base will help us provide a more coordinated and effective response to the issues that matter to our communities.” 

Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody said: 

“Strengthening visible, neighbourhood policing is a priority in my Police and Crime Plan, and this new station represents a significant investment in delivering that commitment in Bath. In so many conversations I have with residents, communities and local organisations in Bath, people tell me how important visible policing is to them. The new station has come as a direct result of listening to their voices and ensuring that public opinion and experience continue to shape how local policing is delivered.”
