CCTV appeal after serious assault in Bristol

We are releasing CCTV images of two people we would like to speak to in relation to a serious assault in Bristol.

A man, in his fifties, suffered significant injuries when he was assaulted by two men on Fishponds Road at around 12.45-12.50am on Wednesday 24 June.

The victim suffered serious injuries, including a broken jaw during the incident, which happened after he watched the England V Ghana World Cup match with another man at The Van Dyke Forum pub.

The assault was carried out by two unknown suspects while he attempted to enter a taxi which was parked in a lay-by outside Alfu International, while the second man suffered non-serious injuries when he attempted to intervene.

The two unknown offenders then fled the scene down Hinton Road.

The victim has since been discharged from hospital and is continuing to recover from the incident, and he has been offered access to any specialist support services he may benefit from.

A scene was in place so forensic enquiries could be carried out, trawls of CCTV have been conducted, and witnesses have been spoken to while the investigation continues.

We are now at the stage where we are releasing images of two men who we believe may have information which could assist our enquiries.

The first man, pictured, is described as white, in his twenties or thirties, of slim build, with facial hair, who was wearing white or pale blue shorts, with a T-shirt tucked into the waist band. He was also wearing white socks and pale, grey shoes.

The second man, pictured, is also described as white, in his twenties or thirties, who is clean shaven, wearing a royal blue T-shirt with a logo and large white writing across the back, black Adidas tracksuit bottoms with white stripes down the side, a dark blue Adidas cap, and a heavy link-style chain around his neck.

DIO Ellen Rye, from our Criminal Investigations Department (CID), said: “This was an abhorrent incident which left a man with significant injuries, from which he is still recovering, and he has understandably been left distressed by the ordeal.

“While we do not have information which suggests there is an ongoing threat to the public, a thorough investigation is underway, and extensive enquiries have been conducted.

“We are now appealing to any witnesses to come forward, as well as anybody with information on the identity of the men, pictured, as we understand there were a number of people in the area at the time.

“We would also like to hear from anybody who may have relevant dashcam or mobile phone footage from around the time of the incident, which could be vital to the investigation.”
