Boys remanded into detention on rape charges
Two teenage boys from Somerset were remanded into youth detention after appearing at Taunton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 2 September, charged with offences including rape.
A 17-year-old is charged with:
- Three counts of rape of a girl aged under 16
- One count of non-fatal strangulation
- One count of assault causing actual bodily harm
A 16-year-old is charged with:
- Three counts of rape of a girl aged under 16
- One count of rape of a woman aged 16 or over
- One count of non-fatal strangulation
- One count of assault causing bodily harm
The alleged offences happened at addresses in North Somerset, western Somerset, and in Cornwall. The charges relate to a vulnerable young woman and two teenage girls aged under 16.
Legally, neither boy can be named due to their age. Both boys’ self-defined ethnicity is white British. They have been remanded into youth detention pending a further hearing at Taunton Crown Court (sitting at North Somerset Courthouse) on Friday 25 September.
