Family’s pride for Alfie, 18, in heartfelt tribute

The family of an 18-year-old man whose life was cruelly cut short by a dangerous driver have paid tribute to a son ‘they were extremely proud of.”

Alfie Gray, from Weston-super-Mare, was riding his motorbike home from work along the A370 when he was involved in a collision with a car which veered into his path on Tuesday 10 September 2024.

Alfie tragically died as a result of his injuries.

His mum and dad have written a poignant tribute to their son, “who will always be missed, will never be forgotten, and will always be loved.

The statement said: “Our handsome son, Alfie Gray, was 18 years old. He was full of ideas for his future and wanted to live his life to the fullest, but his life was cruelly ripped away while he was riding his motorbike. 

“We were extremely proud of him. He was a protective and loving brother to his younger siblings. He was loyal and devoted to his friends and would always offer a supportive shoulder to cry on. 

“Motorbikes were the making of him. Alfie became a member of the local biking community and has been described as a ‘gentle giant’ and is extremely missed by all those he would have called his second family.

“Alfie’s future, his hopes, and dreams were taken due to someone choosing to drive dangerously. 

“We are heartbroken and no sentence will ever ease the pain of never seeing our son grow and develop into the wonderful man we know he would have become.”

Kasper Stankiewicz, 20, from Congresbury, was sentenced to two years in a young offenders’ institution and disqualified from driving for six years when he was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court today (Tuesday 22 September).

Stankiewicz had been travelling in the opposite direction along the A370 when he caught up with another vehicle travelling in the same direction near Puxton Park.

He overtook the witness, going onto the opposite side of the road, and collided with Alfie.
