Fourth person charged with Avonmouth assault offences

A woman will appear in court next month after being charged in connection with our investigation into injuries sustained by ship workers in Avonmouth in July.

Kayleigh Coates was re-arrested on Friday 25 September and has now been charged with three offences.

The 39-year-old is the fourth person to be charged during the course of our enquiries into an incident in Richmond Terrace on the evening of Friday 31 July.

Two ship workers required hospital treatment as a result of injuries they sustained. One of them was soon discharged but the other man remains seriously ill in hospital.

A third ship worker also reported being assaulted but did not require hospital treatment.

Coates, from north Bristol, has been charged with two counts of assault causing grievous bodily harm and a racially-aggravated public order offence. The incident has been recorded as a suspected hate crime.

She has been released on conditional bail and is due to attend Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 22 October.

Two men, aged 18 and 45, have previously been charged in connection with the same incident and are on remand. The fourth defendant, a 17-year-old boy, is on conditional bail.

Their next hearing will take place at Bristol Crown Court on Wednesday 30 September.
