Officers were called to attend reports of a demonstration in Bristol today (Monday 5 October).

A solo-crewed officer attended at around 11.30am and the demonstration had transitioned into a protest and counter-protest in Woodland Road.

An incident broke out when a man was grabbed, resulting in a physical altercation involving a small number of people.

The officer was able to separate those involved and, as they were the only attending officer on the scene, had to prioritise keeping people safe and preventing any further offences from being committed.

Further officers arrived and the groups were dispersed.

A man reported being assaulted by members of the counter-protest and officers have taken his details to take a fuller account at a later date.

Enquiries to establish what happened are ongoing, including a full review of all available footage.
