Man in court following incident in Worle
A 70-year-old man has appeared in court following an incident in Worle earlier this week.
Peter Bissell, of Becket Road, has been charged with possessing explosive substances for unlawful purposes and possessing a firearm without a certificate.
The charges follow an incident in Becket Road, Worle, where an overnight 100m cordon was put in place on Wednesday (30 September) after suspected explosive substances and firearms were located within an address.
Bissell appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Saturday 3 October) and he was remanded to appear at Bristol Crown Court next week.
Neighbourhood Policing Superintendent Jen Appleford said: “This has been a complex and significant investigation involving multiple agencies, and I appreciate the patience and understanding shown by residents who were affected by the cordon and evacuation measures put in place to keep people safe.
“Following extensive searches and enquiries, a man has now been charged in connection with the explosive substances and firearm recovered from the address in Becket Road.
“I would like to thank officers, staff and our partner agencies, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, for their professionalism and support throughout this incident.
“Court proceedings are now active, and we would ask people not to speculate about the case while it progresses through the criminal justice system.”
