Statement following incident at Park Street

A cordon was put in place in Park Street.

A police cordon has been lifted and all roads reopened following an incident in Bristol this morning (Friday 23 October).

At 8.25am we received a call from the member of the public concerned they had potentially witnessed a man leaving a suspicious item in the Park Street area.

As a precaution, a cordon was put in place, which also included Hill Street, St George’s Road and Frogmore Street.

Shortly after 11am, a controlled detonation was carried out by the Army’s explosive ordnance disposal team.

We would like to reassure the public that an initial assessment of the item has been carried out and it is not considered to have been a viable explosive or to have posed a risk to people.

Public safety is always our priority and therefore we believe it was right to take the precautionary approach we did in response to this incident. We are grateful to the member of public who shared their concerns with us.

All roads have now been reopened.
