Our enquiries into a collision in Taunton in which a teenage boy died have led to an arrest and the seizure of a vehicle.

Emergency services were called to the collision on East Reach at about 10.20pm on Thursday 1 October. An electric motorbike with two riders was in collision with a car which had stopped at traffic lights near the junction with Haydon Road.

Tragically, a 16-year-old boy, believed to be the pillion passenger, died at the scene. His family is being supported by a specially trained officer, and our thoughts remain with them.

A second teenage boy was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition. He was discharged from hospital after two weeks but continues to require ongoing medical treatment.

The electric motorcycle was not at the scene when officers arrived. Police have since traced what they believe to be this vehicle, and it has been seized for forensic examination.

As part of the ongoing investigation a boy, 15, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. He was later released on police bail to an address outside the Avon and Somerset policing area. He has bail conditions including an overnight curfew and not returning to Somerset.
