Rural Crime Trailer Thefts

Recent reports indicate a rise in agricultural trailer thefts within our rural communities. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and assess their security measures to help prevent such incidents. Below are key security tips to protect your trailer:

  • Record and Photograph Your Trailer: Keep a record of your trailer’s serial number and take clear photographs. These will be invaluable for publicity and potential recovery if theft occurs. Note any distinguishing damage or repairs to aid identification. Store this information on immobilise.com.
  • Mark Your Trailer: Apply forensic security marking systems such as SELECTA DNA or DATATAG. Additionally, consider marking multiple areas, such as painting your postcode or farm name prominently to deter theft.
  • Use Secure Locking Devices: Invest in a high-quality wheel clamp or hitch lock to secure your trailer.
  • Anchor Your Equipment: Chain items together and secure them to a fixed structure or ground anchor using a high-rated CEN padlock and chain.
  • Remove Wheels for Long-Term Storage: If your trailer will be unused for an extended period, remove the wheels and store them separately from the trailer itself.
