Renewed appeal to locate missing George, 18

We are renewing our appeal to locate missing 18-year-old George. 

George had been out near the Royal Inn pub, off Pier Road, in Portishead, on Thursday 17 September when he went missing at around 8.20pm. 

Following his disappearance, police, fire, Coastguard, RNLI, and the National Police Air Service were deployed to the Woodlands Road area and beach where he was last seen and surrounding area. 

Over the past week, we have conducted several searches in and around the area, utilising our specialist search officers, drone and dog units and seeking additional support from the Coastguard, RNLI and Avon Search and Rescue Team. 

CCTV and house-to-house enquiries have also been carried out but we have been unable to find him. 

Last week, we appealed to speak to people who had been on the beach at the time of the disappearance, especially one witness who may have seen George on the beach.  

We are grateful to that witness and everyone who come forward with information and possible sightings, including in the nearby village of Kenn, Clevedon and in Portishead town centre, these have all been assessed and searches deployed accordingly. 

We are also grateful to those members of the public who have been out assisting us in the searches for missing George day and night.  

We would like to once again urge those who are carrying out searches not to put themselves at risk by walking across mud, in rocky areas or searching at height. We are utilising specialist officers and qualified experts to conduct these searches. 

Today (Wednesday 22 September), we are sharing a short clip of George when he left his home address in the hope people may recognise the clothing he was wearing. 

George is white, approximately 5ft 7ins tall, with short, brown hair.  

He was last seen wearing a branded Gymshark black hoodie and black Gymshark jogging bottoms, and Yeezy Boost grey and orange trainers. 

He is shown in the clip wearing a black baseball cap, but this has been located and George is not believed to be wearing a hat. 

George’s family have asked me to also make the following statement on their behalf: 

“We would like to thank everyone who has called with offers of support and helped police in the search for our son, whether that is through sharing appeals online or joining the search effort. 

“We continue to appeal for any information which will bring George home to us and ask that people respect our privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”  

From me, I would like to recognise the strength and resilience of George’s family during this time and we continue to keep them updated through a specialist liaison officer.
