Report an e-bike incident

It is illegal to ride an e-bike that can be propelled by the motor at more than 15.5mph or has a power output higher than 250 watts on public roads.

You can ride an e-bike as long as you are aged 14 or over. You do not need a driving licence, insurance or vehicle tax to ride an e-bike, nor does it need to display a number plate.

The e-bike must:

have moving pedals that can be used to propel it at no more than 15.5mph
have a continuous-rated power output of no more than 250 watts
display the battery’s voltage

Modifications

E-bikes must not be modified in any way. Anything outside of the above rules, including Sur-Ron bikes, are classified as a motorcycle and the laws on riding a motorcycle will apply.

online – Contact your Neighbourhood Policing Team
in person – visit a police station

Immediate danger

Call 999 if you witness a crime involving an e-bike taking place or if someone is in serious danger.
