Coronavirus (COVID-19): the policing response and what you need to know

Operation Bluestone – PC to DC and detective constable

We are looking for talented, enthused and passionate police constables (PC) and detective constables (DC) to join Operation Bluestone, a dedicated team of specialist investigators focusing on Rape and Serious Sexual Offences (RaSSO).

Operation Bluestone teams work collaboratively to:

  • decrease vulnerability-led crime in relation to rape and sexual violence
  • increase the number of perpetrators brought to justice
  • significantly improve support and outcomes for victims, at a time when they are at their most vulnerable and in need of our help

As a Bluestone PC or DC, you will deal with sensitive and unpleasant situations so you will need to demonstrate professionalism and resilience at all times.

You will have the drive and determination to make a difference, with the confidence and natural tenacity to ask those key questions required to gather all possible evidence.

Your work will change people’s lives, with investigation successes linking directly with future prevention of similar repeat occurrences.

Operation Bluestone roles are available at:

  • Bristol (Kenneth Steele House)
  • Emerson’s Green (Concorde House)
  • Bridgwater (Sandy Padgett House)
  • Yeovil Police Station

If you currently serve in a Home Office Police force and are looking to transfer to Avon and Somerset Police, we would like to hear from you.

What skills and qualifications do you need?

Police constables

We are looking for PCs who have an interest, passion and aptitude for investigative work and this type of offence.

You may have already taken, or be due to sit, your National Investigators Exam (NIE). You may have embarked on the detective accreditation pathway, or considering developing your career to become a detective in the future.

Detective constables

We are looking for DCs who have experience of working in rape and serious sexual assault investigations.

You may already be accredited in the Specialist Sexual Assault Investigator Development Programme (SSAIDP), or be willing to undertake the accreditation with our support.

Applicants should have completed the Professionalising Investigations Programme Level 2 (PIP2) accreditation (previously known as ICIDP).

Development pathway opportunities

We offer multiple pathways with structured learning and development support tailored to individual needs including:

  • 1-2-1 mentoring
  • specialist course provisions
  • dedicated time for NIE study and support packages

The specialist and dedicated skills you learn will enable you to make a real difference to so many.

Are you eligible?

You are eligible to transfer if you:

  • are transferring from a Home Office Police force
  • have successfully completed the full Initial Police Learning and Development Programme (IPLDP) programme
  • have successfully completed your probationary period and are working as an accredited detective
